{"id":41254,"date":"2012-05-24T08:20:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T08:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.halegroves.com\/blog\/recipe\/bavarian-cookie-wreaths\/"},"modified":"2022-02-11T12:02:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T12:02:58","slug":"bavarian-cookie-wreaths","status":"publish","type":"cuisine-recipe","link":"https:\/\/www.halegroves.com\/blog\/recipe\/bavarian-cookie-wreaths\/","title":{"rendered":"Bavarian Cookie Wreaths Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span style=\"color: rgb(255,153,0)\">INGREDIENTS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">3 &frac12; cups unsifted all-purpose flour<br \/>  1 cup sugar, divided<br \/>  3 teaspoons <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">grated Hale orange peel<\/span>, divided<br \/>  &frac14; teaspoon salt<br \/>  1 1\/3 cups butter or margarine<br \/>  &frac14; cup fresh <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Hale orange juice<br \/>  <\/span>1\/3 cup finely chopped blanched almonds<br \/>  1 egg white beaten with 1 teaspoon water<br \/>  <span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span style=\"color: rgb(255,153,0)\"><br \/>  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span style=\"color: rgb(255,153,0)\">PREPARATION<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">Preheat oven to 400 degrees.&nbsp; In a large bowl, mix fl our, 3\/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons orange peel and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter and orange juice until mixture holds together. Knead a few times and press into a ball. Shape dough into 3\/4 inch balls; lightly roll each on a floured board into 6 inch long<br \/>  strips. Using two strips, twist together to make a rope. Pinch ends of<br \/>  rope together to make a wreath; place on lightly greased baking sheet.<br \/>  In a shallow dish, mix almonds with remaining 1\/4 cup sugar and 1<br \/>  teaspoon orange peel. Brush the top of each wreath with egg white<br \/>  mixture and sprinkle with sugar-almond mixture.<br \/>  Bake in a 400 degree F. oven 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.<br \/>  Remove to wire racks; cool completely. Frost if desired.*<br \/>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Frosting<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">1 cup confectioners&rsquo; sugar<br \/>  2 tablespoons butter or margarine, at room temperature<br \/>  1 to 2 teaspoons milk<br \/>  Few drops green food color<br \/>  Red cinnamon candies<br \/>  In a small bowl, mix confectioners&rsquo; sugar, butter, 1 teaspoon milk and a few<br \/>  drops green food color. Add more milk if necessary to make frosting thick, but<br \/>  spreadable. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a small leaf tip (preferable # 67).
