Exotic Citrus Fruit Desserts for Parties
You can use citrus fruits to make desserts that will wow your friends and family at parties but will be healthier than traditional desserts. Using Florida oranges and other citrus fruits in cooking and baking is a great way to add natural sweetness without using a lot of processed sugar. The naturally sweet citrus juice is also packed with nutrients. If you want to make exotic desserts for birthdays, anniversaries, dinner parties, or holiday parties here are some great citrus fruit desserts to try:
Florida Orange Chiffon Cake – This crowd pleaser makes enough cake to feed a large party and the slices are easy to cut and easy to eat too. You can also make this cake ahead of time and freeze it until you are ready to serve it. Make a traditional bundt cake using fresh squeezed Florida orange juice instead of water. Add some finely grated orange peel into the cake mix too. After the cake cools drizzle a sauce from Honeybell tangelo juice and sugar over the cake. Top the cake with candied orange and lemon peels, or serve with fresh berries and cream.
Citrus Tart – This light dessert is very refreshing and perfect for summer gatherings and picnics. Make a pie crust from crushed wafer cookies, or use a premade cookie crumb crust. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of grated lemon, orange, and lime peel into the crust. Use sour cream, sugar, yogurt, and eggs to make a custard like filling. Add more grated lemon and orange peel into the filling. Fill the crust with the citrus filling and bake like a traditional cheesecake. When the tart is cool cover the top with candied orange segments, or use candied orange and lemon peel as a garnish. To increase the sweetness of the tart try using Honeybell or Clementine zest instead of orange.
Clementine Ambrosia Salad – This dessert is made from simple ingredients but your guests will love the layering of delicate citrus flavors and the bite of the sour cream sauce. In a serving bowl toss peeled Clementine orange segments, fresh pineapple chunks, red and green seedless grapes, sliced kiwi fruit, miniature marshmallows, some sugar and a little powdered vanilla. Use vanilla extract if you do not have powdered vanilla. Combine all the ingredients well, and then dust the top of the bowl and the bottom of individual bowls with grated coconut. When you serve the salad serve it with a simple sour cream dipping sauce on the side.
