Clementines and Social Media

Clementines are certainly a popular fruit when it comes to United States fruit consumption, and probably even more so then any of its mandarin orange cousin. This said, how is it relevant or marketable to include clementines in social media? Well, apparently important! One of the ‘Clementine’ Food and Beverage page on Facebook has nearly 8,000 fans on it! Here people have uploaded photos and talked about their love of Clementines, I guess this is what social media is really all about; finding people who love the same things you do and sharing it. But then again there is the Health and Beauty Clementine Facebook page that has less then 10! And of course there are roughly 100 other fan pages for Clementines on Facebook alone.

Then of course you have Twitter. A social media extravaganza where people can instantly connect, critic and comment on anything. If you search Clementine you will receive thousands of comments. Some of the comments are about their love for the Clementine fruit, others about businesses who use the name Clementine, and even bands that have the word clementine in their name. On the first page alone when Going a quick search I found three different languages! One can not be sure anyone cares if you are eating a Clementine that is ‘mmmmmmmm’ or that you think Clementines are the best snack, but it must be helping the Clementine industry in some way, shape or form.

So, is it effective for the citrus industry to utilize social media, perhaps it does pay to have a Facebook account to link to your website as an indication your business is doing its best to keep up with modern social media. And perhaps it may even make sense to have a twitter account to hype, for example, the coming of the Clementine and when sales will start for the new season?
