Navel Oranges Don’t Have to be Boring

While most people think of serving fruit in terms of a fruit bowl on the dining room table, this concept can quickly become boring. There are many different ways you can serve fruit besides leaving it in a bowl on the table for your guests or family to grab as they come in the door or leave. In fact, when you get into the habit of doing nothing with fruit but putting it into a bowl on the table, eventually everyone will stop eating it. What you need to do is find other ways to serve navel oranges in order to reduce the potential for boredom.

If you want to encourage your family to eat navel oranges, you want to get into the habit of serving it different ways. One of the things you can do to encourage consumption of navel oranges is to create a tropical fruit salad. You can peel and section the navel oranges, add other fruits of your choice along with navel orange juice. Since navel oranges are already sweet, the juice will add a distinctive flavor to the other fruits in your fruit salad. You can choose from a variety of citrus fruits or you can select from some of the other orange varieties such as Valencia, tangerines and tangelos.

Edible arrangements are another healthy way you can serve navel oranges. Since you can build edible arrangements to suit various holidays, there is little chance of creating boredom with your fruit selections. You can choose other fruits such as strawberries, bananas, grapes, cherries, raspberries and blueberries just to give you some ideas. If you are looking for something that has the appearance of being healthy but tastes like something forbidden, you can dip your fruit in various flavors such as chocolate, strawberry and the like.

You can also add navel oranges or navel orange peel to the garden salads you serve with meals. In fact, you can even consider serving a fruit salad as an appetizer to the main course-many caterers do it at weddings and other functions. When you serve fruit salad as an appetizer, the usual etiquette is to serve it prior to the soup and salad course. You will usually see fruit salad on the table when you attend banquets and formal affairs that consist of table to table service. You can adapt the same concept when you serve your family or host dinner parties in your home.
