Summer is coming, and naturally sweet citrus desserts are the perfect way to end hot summer days. When you’re making delicious citrus desserts the quality of the citrus fruits that you use will have a big impact on the taste, so you should always use Indian River citrus fruits in your desserts. Indian River citrus fruits are known around the world as the sweetest and most flavorful citrus fruits that you can buy. Gourmet chefs only use Indian River fruit to cook with because of the high quality of the fruit. Try these great summer desserts made with Indian River oranges and grapefruit and your family and friends will love them:

Grapefruit Shaved Ice – This summer treat is a big heat with kids, especially if you serve it in paper cones like street vendors do. To make this wonderfully cool dessert you will need a lot of shaved ice. If your refrigerator has an icemaker turn the setting to shaved ice. If your refrigerator doesn’t have an ice maker you can take regular ice cubes and smash them up in a blender. Keep the ice in the freezer so it stays cold. Make a simple syrup of sugar and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice by boiling them together until they form a syrup. While the syrup is cooling quickly sugar coat a few segments of grapefruit to add to the ice as a garnish. Mix the syrup with some more fresh grapefruit juice. Put the ice into a container and pour the syrup and juice mixture liberally over the ice. Put a few sugar candied segments of grapefruit on top and serve.

Creamsicles – Orange creamsicles are always a big hit during the summer. You can make your own with no preservatives and fresh ingredients and they will be cheaper and healthier than store bought treats. You can have your kids help you make these as a fun summer activity, and then the kids can enjoy the treats later in the day. To make homemade creamsicles you will need some fresh Indian River oranges. Squeeze fresh juice from the oranges. In a large mixing bowl mix some vanilla ice cream, fresh orange juice, and an egg. Add in about a cup to two cups of unprocessed sugar and a few cups of milk. Mix thoroughly, then pour into plastic popsicle makers and freeze for a few hours. Serve.

Indian River citrus fruits are the perfect base for these and other delicious summer treats that are healthy and tasty.
