Create Gourmet Holiday Treats with Honeybell Oranges
Even if you’re not a gourmet chef you can use delicious Honeybell oranges to create gourmet level treats for the holiday season. Many chefs use Honeybell oranges during the brief time they are in season to make some of their signature dishes, and now you can do the same. You can impress your friends and family with new gourmet dishes while improving your own cooking skills. You can also put a unique spin on some traditional foods by using Honeybell oranges instead of more traditional oranges or grapefruits. So if you’re ready to try some new gourmet Honeybell dishes this year here are some suggestions for easy Honeybell treats you can try even if you don’t have a lot of cooking experience:
Candied Honeybell oranges – The candying process is very easy, and really showcases the taste of the fruit. Because Honeybells are so sweet naturally it won’t take a lot of sugar to candy them. You can candy Honeybell segments or Honeybell peel, or both. Just make sure that if you’re going to candy the Honeybell peel you remove all the pith first, because the pith is better and doesn’t taste very good. A lovely holiday treat that is colorful, sweet, and relatively healthy is to candy the peels of oranges, tangerines, and Honeybell oranges and arrange them in a pretty candy dish. Or, float them in a bowl of punch to add sweetness and color. You can also use them as garnishes in holiday drinks.
Compote of Honeybell Oranges – Compotes are easy to make, and they taste delicious. To make a compote you just need to chop up some Honeybell oranges into little pieces. Add some orange segments and tangerine segments if you want to add a little sparkle to the taste. Simmer the pieces of fruit with fresh Honeybell juice or grapefruit juice until it forms a syrup consistency, although it will still be chunky. Serve it warm over ice cream, waffles, French toast or pancakes for a delicious holiday treat your family will love.
Honeybell oranges are only available from late December through January, but if you order Honeybells in advance you can usually get early Honeybells in time to make holiday treats and dishes. If you’re ordering Honeybell oranges for gifts don’t worry, your gift recipients will receive certificates letting them know that your gift of Honeybells will come as soon as the fruit is ready to be picked.
