Eat Healthy at Work with A Basket of Fruit

Keeping a basket of fruit at work can make a huge different in your health. Your work environment could be ruining your health in more ways than one. Most people spend the bulk of their day at work, surrounded by a lot of stress and without a lot of healthy eating options. If your office is small you may have to leave the building to go find a snack or a meal, meaning that you are the mercy of whatever businesses are close by. If your office is large you may have businesses in the same building catering to the working crowd like coffee houses and restaurants.

However, the items that those businesses sell can knock you off a healthy diet and keep you tired, frazzled and stressed. When you eat or drink high fat and high sugar foods and drinks trying to stay alert and focused or trying to fight off hunger pangs until you can get home and have a healthy meal you could be doing serious damage to your diet and your body. The processed and refined sugars in those foods are very difficult for your body to break down and often they end up stored in your body as fat. The processed sugar and high fat content can make you feel sluggish and tired. You also may end up with elevated energy for a short time but then have jitters and a low blood sugar as the caffeine and sugar is processed out of your body.

A great way to combat the unhealthy effects of these foods and drinks is to keep a basket of fruit at your desk for snacking and for emergency meals when you’re starving and can’t make it out to get a healthy meal. Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits provide vitamins and minerals that will give you natural energy without any kind of sugar rush or sugar crash. The natural sugars in citrus fruit are easy for your body to break down so you won’t have any kind of crash afterward and the sugar won’t end up stored in your body as fat. Low calorie oranges and grapefruit are full of fiber, so you will still feel full but you won’t feel bloated or nauseas the way you can feel after eating greasy snacks or snacks that are high in fat and sugar. A basket of fruit is a low cost way to make a positive change in your life and make sure that you stay on your healthy diet even while you’re at work.
