Honeybells are a Winter Only Treat

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Fruit Facts

Honeybells are one of the most popular types of citrus fruits. Everyone loves the sweet and tangy taste of these unique fruits, but you can only get Honeybells for a short time each winter. Because they are only in season for a few short weeks there is always a waiting list of people who want to buy some of these gourmet citrus fruits. You can avoid getting stuck on the waiting list by ordering your Honeybells early in the year. When you order ahead of time your order will be shipped out as soon as the fruit is picked, or a box of fresh Honeybells will sent out on the date you choose if you want them on a particular date. If you wait too long to order them you could be out of luck and end up on a waiting list for next year’s crop of Honeybells. So order early!

Since Honeybells are only in season for a short time and because they are low in calories you can indulge and eat lots of them while they are in season. Many people find creative ways to preserve their Honeybells for the year ahead by canning them, making marmalade or preserves with them, making the sweet juice into frozen sorbet or popsicles, or baking fruit cakes filled with delicious bits of Honeybell that can be preserved for the year ahead. There are so many ways to enjoy Honeybells that you can eat them everyday while they are in season and still not get sick of them.

Eat some warm Honeybell compote over waffles on Christmas morning. Use fresh squeezed Honeybell juice along with some fresh grapefruit juice in holiday cocktails. You can even use super sweet Honeybell juice to naturally sweeten cookies, cakes and breads. If you have friends and family members who can’t eat refined sugar or try to avoid it make a batch of Christmas cookies using Honeybells to sweeten the cookies and your friends and family members will be touched that you remembered they can’t have refined sugar. Even people who can eat sugar will love your cookies made with sweet Honeybell juice as a sweetener.

The Christmas season is the season for Honeybells. This year order a box of gourmet Honeybells and dig into the juicy delicious fruit as much as you want. Honeybells only come around once a year so enjoy them.
