The Polly Hale Newsletter June 2000: Proof Mounts on Health Benefits of Florida Citrus

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Healthy Eating
Study after study confirms the importance of fresh citrus to one’s health and well-being. Research has shown that oranges and grapefruit contain more dietary fiber per serving than any other 20 most popular fruits and vegetables. The American Heart Association recommends a heart healthy diet low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Florida citrus is free of fat, cholesterol, and sodium, and it contains an abundance of Vitamin C, potassium, and soluble fiber, which helps prevent heart disease.
Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant, enhances healing, aids iron absorption and keeps the immune system tuned up. The number one source of Vitamin C is orange juice. Researcher conducted at the University of Massachusetts, in 1998 indicates that Vitamin C may help diabetics by playing a role in regulating insulin levels. Furthermore, a recent Boston University Arthritis Center study shows that vitamin C may also help prevent osteoarthritis. In 1999, a University of Alabama study suggested that large doses of Vitamin C inhibits the secretion of stress hormones. Another study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates that orange juice may reduce stroke risk by 25%
Tow thousand years ago Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, declared “Your food shall be your remedy” His words of wisdom still hold true today, and we can’t imagine a more delicious “remedy” than fresh juicy orange and grapefruit from Hale.
