Fresh fruit gifts are always popular for holidays and birthdays. Thousands of people give and receive fresh fruit gifts everyday for everything from anniversaries and holidays to weddings and get well gifts. Fresh fruit gifts have been popular gifts for all occasions for thousands of years. Fresh fruit has always been prized for its great taste as well as its nutritional value. Fruit gift baskets full of tasty premium fruit are the most popular holiday gift given during the Christmas season year after year because of the long standing tradition of giving fresh fruit gifts to the people that you love.

The tradition of gifting the ones you love fresh oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and exotic fruits like Honeybells goes back to the earliest recorded history. Throughout the centuries people prized fresh fruit because it was hard to get, tasted sweet and delicious, and would help stave off health problems that back then were fatal, like a Vitamin C deficiency called Scurvy. For people in Europe during the Middle Ages fresh fruit was a luxury during the cold fall and brutal winter when most people lived off of dried foods leftover from the summer harvest. It was very difficult to get fresh food, so a lot of people would get very sick every winter because they weren’t getting the Vitamin C, Potassium and other vitamins and minerals that they needed to stay healthy. Some vitamins and minerals that the body needs are only available in fresh oranges and other citrus fruits.

Rich traders would hire ships to travel to distant lands and bring back spices and fresh citrus fruit but because those voyages were dangerous and expensive to sponsor the cost of the fresh citrus fruit and other items that the ships brought back was much higher than most people could afford. People would save up money for months in order to buy a few oranges or grapefruits to give to their loved ones, usually as holiday gifts. Rich people would often give citrus fruit as a wedding gift or serve citrus fruit at wedding banquets to show off their wealth.

Giving fresh fruit gifts is much less expensive today but it is still very popular. Go online and look through some of the beautiful fresh fruit gifts available now and continue the tradition of giving fresh fruit gifts to your loved ones.
