When It Comes to Healthy Choices Florida Oranges Outrank Chocolate Cake
Sometimes it can be very difficult to make a choice between a nice healthy piece of fruit and a piece of chocolate cake. It sometimes even comes to rationalization: the chocolate cake has flour, eggs, and milk, all healthy things, but at the same time it has sugar and a load of empty calories not to count the WHITE flour that isn’t good for us. No matter how much you try to rationalize eating chocolate cake, Florida oranges are much healthier, do not contain additional sugar or other substances that our bodies do not need.
Why shouldn’t you be allowed to choose chocolate cake over Florida oranges? That, of course, is a decision each person must make for himself or herself, but the reality is choosing the chocolate cake will do several things for our bodies we don’t need including excess weight, fatigue (from too much sugar), declining metabolism that leads to an inability to burn calories and diabetes. While an overconsumption of diabetes does not cause diabetes, those who are predisposed to the disease must be careful what they eat in order to prevent early onset. In addition overindulgence in sugar may cause problems within the pancreas which is exactly what causes diabetes-the body’s inability to properly utilize insulin.
While many people don’t think of it at the time, eating chocolate cake or any other high-calorie dessert instead of eating healthy Florida oranges or other fresh fruit can contribute to a host of other health problems even if you maintain a healthy weight when you are young. Because you are consuming too many “simple sugars,” your body will eventually develop a slower metabolism which will prevent you from burning off the excess calories as quickly. This is one of the reasons people have a more difficult time losing weight when they get older and discover they are not able to eat as much food as they once did.
Healthy choices are important no matter what your age may be. This does not mean you cannot occasionally treat yourself to an “unhealthy” meal or dessert, but you need to limit those instances and consume Florida oranges or other healthy fruits for most of your snack needs. Even those with a sweet tooth can obtain enough sweetness from citrus fruit, like Florida oranges, to prevent any kind of perceived “sugar withdrawal.” You will feel better and your body will look better when you limit those empty calories.
