Grapefruit: It’s Good for Eating and More!
Everyone knows how wonderfully tart, tangy and with that just-right touch of sweetness fresh grapefruit tastes, and we’ve read tons of literature on how good it is health-wise for you. With appealing variety names like Ruby Red, Flame and Star, grapefruit is an enticing food, indeed. And lots of information out there tells us that grapefruit virtually bursts with big-time nutritional benefits like antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, even phytochemicals, which do everything from slowing down the aging process to reducing the risk of cancer.
But what else can grapefruit do? Let’s take a look….
For the Hair
Grapefruit juice does a terrific job at deep cleaning that gunked-up-with-hair-products mop you’ve been shamefully calling your hair. Pour a cup or two through it as you rinse out your shampoo and see for yourself how remarkably soft, silky and manageable it becomes. The juice of the grapefruit thoroughly removes styling gel, mousse, hairspray or any other product you’ve put on your hair.
Strain a cup or so of fresh grapefruit juice and pour it into a plastic spray bottle. Spray your hair wherever you want highlights and then relax outside until it has dried. You’ll notice subtle lightening that looks far more natural than from any method you’ll get at a salon.
Into the Bath
Luxuriate in a bathtub filled with two or more cups of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Not only will the grapefruit juice work to exfoliate your skin, making it soft and smooth, you’ll emerge with a lasting citrusy fragrance that’s naturally fresh and appealing.
A Favorite for the Feet
Embarrassed by rough, dry, cracked heels or feet? Slice a whole, fresh grapefruit or a generous amount of grapefruit juice into a pan of warm water for a soothing, invigorating soak. Once softened, unwanted skin easily sloughs away, and you are left with fresh-smelling feet that now look – and feel – great!
Your Face Will Love It
Toss chunks from half a grapefruit, including the peel, into a food processor or blender. Add a splash or two of milk along with a pinch or so of sugar to exfoliate. After blending and/or processing to a smooth consistency, warm in a microwave for a few seconds to a comfortable temperature. Smooth on your face, and then lightly rub until all of the sugar has dissolved. Rinse thoroughly. Your face will toned, smooth, glowing and gorgeous!
