Popular Citrus Fruits

When you think of citrus fruits, what do you think of? The delicious sweet oranges you ate at half time at your little league soccer games? The royal red flesh of the bitter sweet ruby red grapefruit you had for breakfast? Do you picture the cute little green lime that made your key lime pie the talk of the town? What about that delicious citrus blend juice you had for lunch at your favorite restaurant? Or perhaps you think of the beautiful yellow wedge of tangy lemon in your refreshing ice water on a hot day or the zest you added to your hot tea on a cold winter day?

These are only a few of the most common citrus fruits that you can pick up at your local produce market, farmers market or super market. There are dozens of popular citrus hybrids of pomelos, grapefruits, lemons, limes, oranges and tangerines such as the clementine, the oroblanco, the tangelos and orangelos. Also common are blood oranges, Pompia, limetta, and the bitter orange. Have you ever heard of the finger lime, the trifoliate orange, kumquats, papedas, citrons or desert limes? Well, some you may have heard of others you may not have. There are so many citrus fruit options that you should never get bored by the flavors available that add to your dietary nutrition everyday. But what are these citrus fruits and where can you buy them?

Why not go on the internet and try to find a farmer, orchard or national citrus producer that can put together custom orders for you. All you have to do is search for the types of citrus fruits you would like to try and see when they are best in season and if there is a producer that is willing to send some to you. Once you find a distributor you can generally order by the pound, pay by any major credit card and have them delivered anywhere you would like; your home, your office, or of course to your gift recipient’s home. Why not send someone this year something that you know they will love and that will symbolize freshness, new beginnings and invigorating life. Not only that, you are also promoting and providing healthy options for your friends and family to enjoy. Instead of offering someone a slice of fat and cholesterol ridden cake or a spoonful of calorie packed sides, you are offering them cancer fighting anti-carcinogenic, vitamin C rich fruits that are high in dietary fiber (which helps fight cardiovascular disease by lowering bad cholesterol levels or LDL). What better way to say I love you and I care for you and your friendship than with a gift of citrus fruits that will help that person live longer and healthier.
