A Look Inside the Groves – March 2022 Hale Groves Update

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Grove Update

From the Groves: The Goldenbelle® crop is looking great this year. There are less overall pieces on the trees, which results in each piece receiving more nutrients than when we have heavier crops. Less pieces is a good thing! In addition, we’re looking at slightly larger fruit sizes and higher brix/sugar levels than last season. We will have plenty of delicious fruit for all of our customers.

A Look Inside the Groves – February 2022 Hale Groves Update

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Grove Update

From the Groves: Temples: The temple crop is coming along as scheduled. The cold weather over the last few weeks has brought on a rich orange color for both the inside and outside of the fruit. These delicious little beauties will only have them available for a few weeks. Honeybell Update: In early December, we had some cool nights that were bringing the Honeybells along nicely. Just before Christmas, and into the new year, the weather warmed up and slowed the maturity up a bit. Luckily, we’ve had some cold weather for a few weeks which has brought on that…

With the dryer climate conditions and cooler weather the fruit is coloring up nicely and the brix/sugars have surpassed last year‘s at the same time. A Look Inside the Groves – November 2021 Hale Groves Update

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Grove Update

From the Groves: We are very encouraged to report brix trending a full point higher than this time last year. We continue to be excited about external quality, and seeing fruit break color much more consistently than previous seasons. Grapefruit internal and external quality is exceptional and the size is looking decent as well. This years crop is sure to impress! Looking into November we will continue to watch weather patterns and hope for continued cooler, drier periods. This becomes important for the trees to switch from a vegetative state that produces leaves into focusing on storing energy and sweetness…

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Grove Update

From the Groves: We’re thrilled so far with what we’re seeing across all of our varieties. Last years cooler, drier winter is paying off. The bloom was very uniform, which should translate to more consistent maturity and sizing. Grapefruit specifically is looking fantastic. During the summer, the trees are in a vegetative phase and utilize their resources for vegetation. The shift in weather patterns from summer rain to dry fall is what triggers the tree to transition out of the vegetative phase and move toward fruit maturation. Basically, “growing” season is over for the tree and the resources are shifted…
