Florida Oranges: Vitamin C and Antioxidants that Taste Delicious

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Healthy Eating

When cold weather enters the picture many people get into the habit of taking Vitamin C and vitamin supplements that include antioxidants. They are looking for easy ways to boost their immune systems-“easy” meaning ways other than eating the right foods that will allow them to do that naturally. For instance, why should you pop a vitamin pill when you can eat some fresh Florida oranges to get Vitamin C and antioxidants? Sure, the vitamin is a faster way to get those vitamins and minerals, but you can bet it doesn’t have the same delicious taste!

Does that mean you don’t have to take vitamin supplements? No, not at all, but you should obtain the majority of your vitamins from natural sources: namely the foods you eat. Instead of investing in high-priced food and vitamin supplements so you don’t have to worry about what is in the foods you eat, choose foods that already include enough vitamins and minerals so all you may need is a multiple vitamin to make up the difference. After all, there are some things we just can’t get enough of in the food we eat, but Vitamin C and antioxidants do not fall into that category by any means.

One thing that appeals to most people is taste, and this is the reason many people have a tendency to shy away from certain fruits-because they do not like the taste. Instead of attempting to create a tasty dessert from those fruits that they consider unappealing, they prefer to replace the nutrients they are missing by taking pills instead. Even as sweet as Florida oranges are some people complain they are too sour or bitter and as such refuse to even consider the nutritional value they can derive from this excellent citrus fruit.

When you take into consideration the difference in taste between Florida oranges and the chalky taste in a vitamin capsule, you have to agree the oranges have a much better flavor. Why would anyone choose a bland taste over a sweet and juicy taste? Perhaps it is a psychological thing-the vitamin capsule takes less time to finish in order to derive its benefits. However, one should never depend on artificial means when natural products are available-in fact, some vitamins actually work better when consumers consume them in foods instead of depending on vitamin capsules.
