Healthy Fruit Delivery

Americans have a problem with food. In short, we eat too much of it. When and where our diets went wrong is a matter of some debate. But the scales certainly don’t lie. Americans are now the fattest people on the face of the earth. Two-thirds of her citizens are overweight, while a full third are officially obese.

If it were simply a matter of aesthetics, nobody would pay it much mind. But obesity is now the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, ahead of smoking. The condition dramatically increases the risk of heart disease, type II diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Why are we getting fatter?

One of the most compelling reports was published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2010. The group has been following this growing epidemic for over thirty years and they have a surprisingly simple explanation for us. Americans are consuming more calories than they did in the past. That’s it!

According to their first report, which was published in 1980, the average American consumed 3180 calories each day. But thirty years later, in 2010, the average American was eating 3,790 calories a day. Why are we eating an extra 610 calories each and every day? Have we suddenly slipped back into an agrarian economy? Are Americans working all day long in the dirt? Do we need more energy than we did thirty years ago? No. In fact, the opposite is true.

The average American gets less exercise and burns fewer calories each day than he did in 1980. His lifestyle is increasingly sedentary, both at work and at home. Yet, for some strange, unexplained reason, he is eating more than ever before.

There are dozens of likely culprits: fewer home-cooked meals, more fast food, and high-fructose corn syrup. None of those things help. But the truth is that snacking is the driving force behind our recent weight gain.

Yes, there were snack foods thirty years ago, but they weren’t nearly as popular as they are today. The average American gets about 20 percent of his daily calories from snack foods. This is an alarming figure. In the next few paragraphs we will discuss a healthy way to snack with fruit delivery companies.

Sugary drinks and salty snack foods are often described as empty calories for a reason. Not only are they high in calories, fat, and sodium, but they are also bereft of vital vitamins and nutrients that are bodies rely on. Fruit delivery companies offer a healthy alternative.

Chockfull of vitamin and minerals, most fruit is also fat and cholesterol free. Citrus fruits, for instance, offer healthy doses of vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fiber. They are also low in calories and quite filling. Compare a small bag of pretzels with the average navel orange. The pretzels offer little more than sodium, carbohydrates, and calories. By comparison, the orange has a full daily serving of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and only about one-third of the calories of the pretzels. Is it any wonder why fruit delivery companies are taking off on the internet?
