Honey Tangerines are Kid Approved Snacks

This winter give your kids snacks that will satisfy sugar cravings and help them stay healthy. There are not too many snacks that parents and kids can agree on, but both parents and kids love honey tangerines. Honey tangerines, which are only available from late January through early April each winter, are premium citrus fruits that are super sweet, delicious, and packed with vitamins and minerals. Kids love them because they are so sweet, and parents love them because they have more than a day’s worth of vitamin C in each fruit. Parents also like that each fruit is under 100 calories so that kids can get a snack that will fill them up without packing on the weight. The peel on honey tangerines is a bit tougher than the peel on other types of tangerines so if you have small children you may need to peel the fruit for them. Aside from that these specialty tangerines are the perfect snack for kids.

You can also use the juice in honey tangerines, combined with orange juice or grapefruit juice, to make healthy snacks like fruit smoothies. Fresh tangerine juice tastes delicious and since it’s only available once a year it’s a real treat. Sometimes kids are reluctant to go back to healthy eating after overindulging during the winter holidays and eating all the cookies, sweets and chocolates they can but by encouraging them to try the sweet tangerines you can convince them that honey tangerines are just as good as candy. Here are some fun ways to get your kids to eat more tangerines, oranges and grapefruits:

Make popsicles -Pour some fresh tangerine juice into popsicle molds that you can get at cheap discount stores for around one dollar. Let them freeze and give the kids delicious and healthy popsicles made from tangerine and orange juice.

Make sorbet – Making a sorbet is easy. Blend some tangerine segments and tangerine juice in the blender until smooth. Mix into a simple syrup of sugar and tangerine juice and refrigerate on high until slushy. Your kids will love the slushy texture and the super sweet taste. Serve spoonfuls of it in smoothies or other drinks if your kids prefer it that way.

Put them in salads – Honey tangerines bring a lot of zest and a touch of sweetness to green salads. Experiment with your kids by putting peeled tangerine segments in a green salad and see what they think. Most kids love the idea of citrus fruit in a green salad.
