Honeybell Fruit Is Here!
In the sunshine state of Florida, the first weeks of January bring with them one of the most exciting times of the year. The Honeybell tangelo, Florida’s own exotic and mysterious hybrid fruit that’s packed full of juicy taste, comes into full ripening for just this short amount of time. Florida Honeybell tangelos pack all the rich tastes of several different kinds of fruits into one small, curiously shaped package. The Honeybell isn’t the most famous fruit in the world, but once you’ve sampled the sweet, abundant taste and sampled the soft, succulent pulp you’ll agree it’s unforgettable.
The Honeybell Is A Florida Original
Not many states can brag that they created their own kind of fruit, but Florida can rightfully lay claim to the Honeybell tangelo. Citrus farmers working within the vast citrus fruit orchards surrounding the city of Orlando first created the delightful Honeybell during the 1930s. How is a fruit created? The Honeybell is a hybrid citrus fruit, meaning it was created by breeding two other fruits. In the case of the Honeybell cross breeding a Duncan grapefruit and the Dancy tangerine created a juicy, small, sweet fruit with a unique bell shape.
The Honeybell, originally known as the Minneola tangelo first made its way to the public shortly thereafter. Honeybells got their current name for their distinct shape and taste. The juice and pulp of the sweet, succulent little fruit is said to be “sweeter than honey.” Meanwhile, the small divot on one end of the fruit’s surface, from which it hangs to its tree, gives it a unique and charming bell shape.
The Honeybell Is Amazingly Nutritious
It’s strange to think such a delightful little package could pack so much nutritious value, but the Honeybell contains an amazing array of vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients that the help the body feel better, live longer, and become more active. Honeybells are rich in both Vitamin A, which will help your skin and eyesight, and Vitamin C, which helps you to resist sickness and to have more energy. Honeybells are also an excellent source of calcium, which promotes better bone density and tooth quality, and fiber, for the digestive system and for your body’s tissues.
Honeybells are only available for a few week’s every January, however, so it’s important to order early. You don’t want to miss the sweet tastes and delicious nutritious benefits of these all-American originals.
