Providing Fresh Citrus Fruit for Hotel Guests
Many of the upper class hotels provide many different things as part of the amenities they provide guests. One of these special things includes stocking the room with various snack items and drinks. The problem is that in many cases the snack items hotels provide includes high calorie selections such as candy and sugary drinks. While many hotels are deviating from this practice, there are still many that still retain the practice thinking this is what hotel guests expect. While this may hold true in many cases, the reality is people become accustomed to those services based upon experience. If a hotel chain develops the practice of providing fresh citrus fruit and juices for their guests, they will expect to find these selections and not candy or sugary drinks.
Quite often people get drawn into the way they eat because of habit. They come home from work or school and grab a quick snack-cake, cookies, ice cream or candy – because it is convenient. The same holds true for the snack items that many hotels provide guests in their rooms and in their lobbies. If hotel staff gets into the habit of providing fresh citrus fruit instead of high calorie selections, guests will expect to see citrus fruit rather than cakes, candies and other high calorie, sugary selections. While not everyone will be receptive to this practice, there will be enough guests who prefer citrus fruit to make it worthwhile.
If a hotel starts providing citrus fruit, does that mean they must invest more money than they were for candy and sugary snacks? This is not necessarily true because they do not have to provide an entire fruit basket. Take some citrus fruit slices and place them in prominent places in the room-if there is a refrigerator, hotel staff can use small bags that hotel guests can select at their discretion.
Tables in the dining area are notorious for high calorie candy selections. Instead of mints and M&Ms, place orange sections on the table. While not everyone will be receptive to eating fruit in the hotel dining room or lobby, the practice will draw in those who could not ordinarily enjoy those high-calorie sugary snacks. The key is to train people to learn to eat healthy snacks, and you can accomplish this most effectively by providing citrus fruit snacks any place a person might visit including the lobbies, guest rooms and dining rooms of hotels.
