If you want to make a beautiful and health dessert for a gourmet dinner party or other event try making a sorbet with a fruit arrangement. This healthy and delicious dessert will impress your friends and family and is the perfect end to a gourmet meal. You can arrange the fruit and the sorbet and serve it in many different ways to make an artistic statement or fit into the theme of the event. As long as you keep the sorbet chilled there is no limit to how you can serve this dessert. You can also make an alcoholic version of the sorbet using flavored vodka that will add a dramatic flair to the finished dessert. One of the great things about this dessert is that you can dress it up for a gourmet event or serve it to kids at a birthday party depending on the fruit you use and how you arrange it.

To make this dessert you’ll need a couple of large boxes of mixed citrus fruits. If your event falls during the right time of the year you can use exotic Honeybell tangelos and Clementine oranges which will make an exceptional sorbet, but even just using oranges and grapefruits will create a delicious dessert. Once you have your fruit you’ll need to choose a container to serve the sorbet in. Metal or glass bowls that will hold a chill work great, but you can also serve the sorbet in individual goblets arranged on a cold tray surrounded by a fruit arrangement, or serve the fruit on ice in a chilled punch bowl with a chilled bowl of sorbet in the center. Whatever container you decide to use make sure you place it in the refrigerator to chill before you start making the sorbet.

To make the sorbet juice some of the oranges and grapefruits you ordered. Mix the fresh juices together and boil them with some sugar until they form a syrup. Don’t be afraid to pile on the sugar if you need to, that will make the sorbet. When the mixture is thick enough that it will coat the back of a spoon without dripping it’s ready. If you’re making an alcoholic sorbet add the vodka at this point. Use a grapefruit or citrus flavored vodka if you want to add more dimension to the flavor. Pour into the chilled containers. Sorbet with alcohol in it can be frozen, because the alcohol will not freeze and will keep the sorbet from becoming solid ice. If you’re not using alcohol place the sorbet in the fridge and turn the cold up. When the sorbet has the right consistency add it to a fruit arrangement and serve.
