The Red Grapefruit: A Dieter’s Delight

By: The Hale Groves Team | On: | Category: Healthy Eating

We’ve all heard about the grapefruit diet. But now that it’s come to light that red grapefruit – much sweeter, juicier and tastier than the plain, white grapefruit – provides even more healthful benefits than its pale counterpart, it’s time to take a second look, this time at the red grapefruit diet.

There’s no doubt more than several red grapefruit diets exist, but here’s one red grapefruit diet that’s too simple to pass up. It’s not rocket science, and it’s not guaranteed to work without doing your part with portion control, exercise and watching those ever-tempting fats!

Negative-Calorie Foods

We’re not sure the theory can be proven, but some people swear by what they call “negative-calorie” foods. These are foods that presumably take more calories to digest than what the foods themselves provide. For example, a tomato may have 30 calories; but to consume, digest and eliminate that tomato, your body burns up 60 calories in doing so. So, in your red grapefruit diet, foods included in this “negative-calorie” category that can be eaten as much of as you wish include apples, asparagus, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, cranberries, cucumbers, lettuce, mushrooms, pineapples, spinach, strawberries and tangerines. Please – no sugar or butter allowed!

Whether or not it takes more calories to consume these foods than the calories they contain, it’s plain common sense they’re all good for you. Filled with vitamins and minerals our bodies crave, not to mention fiber and all-important water, you can’t go wrong by eating these foods as part of the red grapefruit diet.

The Red Grapefruit Role

The next part of the red grapefruit diet consists, again, of common good sense. Eat your normal foods, but do so with restraint. Eat smaller portions (but not so small that you don’t eat enough!). Avoid fried foods. Go easy on the salad dressings, sauces, gravies, and of course, sugar. And the part red grapefruit plays? Eat one half of a fully ripe (they’re more full of nutrition then) red grapefruit after each meal. This part of the diet will truly seem like a dessert. The red grapefruit has been lauded now for a while for its superior sweetness and juiciness over other varieties of grapefruit.

So that’s it! According to followers of the red grapefruit diet, it won’t be long before you’ll notice those pounds coming off. And along with regular exercise – you’ll see them come off even faster!
