One way that you can get the nutrition of navel oranges on the go without the hassle of peeling the actual fruit is to make delicious smoothies. Smoothies are great for a quick breakfast or a quick snack, and they can be made easily at home from natural ingredients. If you’re trying to watch what you eat but need convenient food that can travel with you smoothies are the best option.

If you’re a smoothie drinker you probably have plenty of fresh fruit in the house but it’s especially important to keep navel oranges, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits in the house because they are a huge part of many smoothie recipes. Any smoothie can become a citrus smoothie by simply using the juice of the navel oranges, grapefruits or citrus fruits that you have on hand instead of water or milk in the smoothie. Using juice is a great way to give your smoothie a healthy shot of Vitamin C as well other minerals that your body needs. Here are some great smoothie ideas using fresh citrus fruits that you can use to make your own delicious drinks:

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie – This smoothie is a great dessert for hot summer nights. Just combine some fresh squeezed orange juice with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt and some orange zest. If you want to add more citrus flavor make your own orange ice cream by chopping up segments of navel oranges or Valencia oranges, melt the ice cream down, put in the chopped fruit, and let it freeze again.

Orange Banana Pineapple Smoothie – This tropical tasting smoothie is great when the weather is cold and you want to remind yourself that summer will come again. Combine the freshly squeezed juice of a couple of navel oranges with some pineapple sorbet and some sliced banana. Whip until frothy and drink. You can also mix pineapple juice with the orange juice if you prefer a lighter citrus flavor.

Cranberry Orange Smoothie- Want to get yourself in a holiday mood? Start with this festive fall smoothie. Mix cranberry juice with the juice of several navel oranges and combine with vanilla yogurt or vanilla ice cream, sliced oranges, and grated orange zest. Whip them altogether and you’ll have a beautiful looking healthy smoothie that is perfect anytime. If you want to get a little extra nutrition in your smoothie whip in some sliced banana as well. It won’t change the taste but it will give you an additional serving of fresh fruit.
