What to Look for in a Fruit Delivery Company

Fruit trays, crates, boxes, and baskets have grown increasingly popular with the American public. Their appeal is due in no small part to the fact that the internet has lowered costs across the board. Fruit baskets began as pricey and exclusive corporate gifts that were arranged by florists or gourmet food companies. They shipped huge fruit baskets to clients and colleagues during the holidays.

Fruit delivery to private citizens didn’t truly take off until online sellers got in on the act. Lower overhead and increased competition inspired tens of thousands of fruit delivery companies to offer their goods on the internet. Mail order gifts like flowers, candy, and fruit seemed perfectly suited for online sales.

Fruit is one of the most popular agricultural products in the United States. Florida alone has a 9 billion-dollar a year citrus industry. But fruit is incredibly sensitive. It only grows in certain environments. Apples are cultivated mainly in Washington State, New York, and Michigan. And only four states-Florida, California, Texas, and Arizona-have a commercial citrus industry.

As you might imagine, this limits the options of fruit lovers who do not reside in these states. Sure, they can find the most popular fruit varieties at their local supermarket, but they will rarely come across the most sought after and succulent fruits. Navel oranges, Duncan grapefruits, and Macintosh apples can be purchased in most grocery stores. But can you find Ruby Red grapefruits, Temple oranges, or Cortland apples? Probably not.

The reason for this is simple. These fruit varieties are harder to grow than the large fruit crops. Fruits like Navel oranges, Duncan grapefruit, and Macintosh apples are less weather sensitive, which means that they can be grown in many different regions of the country. By comparison, the Honeybell Orange is only cultivated along the Indian River in Florida. Not surprisingly, the annual Honeybell crop is quite small.

But the Honeybell isn’t the only rare variety of fruit in America. Each and every state that produces a commercial crop is home to dozens of distinct varieties that are rarely shipped out of state. Fortunately, we now have access to fruit delivery companies

Sellers are generally located in the fruit-producing states. There are thousands of them in Florida alone. They accept orders from customers across the land and ship their boxes, crates, and baskets of fresh produce each and every day. Finding a reliable fruit delivery company is easy if you know what to look for.

Since they are niche players, most of them cater to a certain type of client. There are companies that sell gourmet fruit baskets as corporate gifts and those that sell smaller, more affordable baskets for average citizens. Many fruit orchards also offer fruit trays, baskets, and crates of their finest, most exclusive fruit varieties.
