Indian River fruit is the most popular fruit sold in the US for several different reasons. The biggest reason why people love Indian River fruit is because of the unique taste of fruit from the Indian River region. Citrus fruit from the Indian River area of Florida has a fresh and refreshing taste that tastes better than almost any other fruit. Taste an orange or a grapefruit from the Indian River area and one from somewhere else and you’ll instantly know which is the Indian River fruit because of the sweet and unique taste. That’s because the growing conditions in the Indian River area are unlike growing conditions anywhere else. Oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruits thrive in the India River area because of the nutrient rich soil in the region. The Indian River drops nutrient filled soil throughout the area which makes the soil in the region the best in the world for growing oranges and other fruit.

Legend has it that citrus fruit was already growing in the Indian River area when the first settler, Captain Douglas Dummitt, entered the area. According to local history he smelled sweet oranges growing in the area when he arrived and as soon as he had his house built he went out and found orange trees to plant in his yard because he loved the fragrance so much. After tasting the fruit others came to the area and set up citrus groves to grow and sell the delicious Indian River fruit which was unlike any other fruit. At the turn of the twentieth century Indian River fruit was already famous for its great taste and was in high demand. In fact so many people wanted Indian River fruit that other citrus growers began saying their fruit was Indian River fruit to cash in on the demand. The citrus growers in the Indian River district banded together and got the government to pass a law making that practice illegal. As a result of their efforts you can be sure that if you order Indian River fruit it really was grown in the Indian River area of Florida.

Because Indian River fruit is in high demand all the time if you plan on ordering some delicious oranges or other fruits for holiday gifts you should order early to make sure that you get some before they sell out. Indian River fruit often sells out because everyone wants the best tasting citrus fruit available.
