Why Movies Today Need More Fresh Fruit

A lot of people complain that movies aren’t as good as they used to be. There’s a lot of truth in that feeling. Many of the most modern films lack the glamour, polish, romance and sweeping scope of the classic films of yesteryear. What the modern cinema needs more of right now is fresh citrus fruit, like the kind found in fresh citrus fruit baskets and assorted fruit gift baskets.

If more movies focused more on fresh citrus fruit, or if more movies included fresh citrus fruit in their story lines and plots, then the films as a whole would improve. If that idea seems a bit outlandish or even outright strange consider that no one’s tried it yet, so no one can say it wouldn’t work. Consider some of the following movies from the past decade re-purposed to show how fresh fruit might have improved their stories and their potential for audience enjoyment.

“There Will Be Citrus Fruit” – Daniel Day Lewis portrays a Florida citrus grower determined to invent a new kind of hybrid tangelo, which he plans to call the Honeybell. Unlike the melodrama There Will Be Blood, this film highlights the beauty of the Florida environment rather than the dreary Southwestern desert. At the end of the film he compares his farming techniques to making a delightful fruit smoothie, a healthier treat than a milkshake.

“Twilight: Full Orange Moon” – A young girl finds herself torn between love of a vampire and the affections of a werewolf. Only when the vampire begins to eat plenty of Vitamin A, like the kind found in many forms of tangelo and ruby red grapefruit, does his skin take on a healthy color. The young girl, impressed, makes her choice.

“Superbad Nick’s Paper Heart In Revolt” – In this amalgamation of several movies starring perpetually teenaged Michael Cera, an awkward young man pursues true love while dividing his time between appreciating indie music and trying to grow the perfect tangelo. He finds himself romancing a young fruit basket arrangement artist, played by the ing?nue of the moment.

Besides the obvious story possibilities, the sunshine state of Florida also makes a great place to shoot movies, thanks to its gentle climate and ready availability of various shooting locations that lend themselves to any number of genres.
