Take A Walk Through the Citrus Fruit Nutrient Store

You love fresh citrus fruit, right? Who doesn’t? Citrus fruits like oranges, ruby red grapefruit, and tangelos are some of the most delicious foods around. Likewise the delicious tangerine and the lovely pink grapefruit.

Citrus fruits aren’t just delicious, though. They’re actually some of Mother Nature’s healthiest foods, coming jam-packed with a huge array of vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients. Though each citrus fruit’s own payload of healthy ingredients varies a little according to type, most citrus fruits share a certain complement of life-giving daily essential nutrients, making them all a vital part of any diet. Just look at some of the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals included in most fresh citrus fruit:

Calcium – Everyone knows calcium is important for good bone health, but it’s also got lots of other important advantages. Calcium keeps one’s teeth in good order, helping the teeth remain strong and resist damage from tooth decay and plaque. Calcium is also important to proper heart strength, and can even help the brain function more efficiently.

Fiber – Fiber is another “big ticket” item to most doctors and nutritionists, and for good reason. Fiber helps the body maintain a proper digestive system, keeping its ability to discard waste efficient and also in building strong muscles and tissues that keep the body young.

Vitamin C – if there’s one vitamin anyone in the world can name as essential to good health, it’s Vitamin C, and citrus fruits are all but synonymous with its important benefits. Vitamin C supercharges the immune system, helping repel both short-term infections such as diseases but also longer term illnesses that can seriously impair the body’s health.

Vitamin B6 – Studies show Vitamin B6 contains important ingredients in the prevention of heart disease and Parkinson’s disease. On a more cheerful level, some studies suggest Vitamin B6 may actually help people better recollect their dreams.

Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc – Though their names suggest they’re better suited to building construction than to the human diet, these three nutrient metals play important roles in helping the body regulate its systems and ward off disease.

Potassium – An important nutrient for senior citizens, potassium can help the body resolve hypertension and keep sodium levels low.

Niacin, Folate, and Thiamin – These three little known but required nutrients should be absorbed every day. They too are essential to the body’s optimum functioning, and citrus fruits often contain close to a full day’s recommended supply.
