Even if you don’t have time to eat a full breakfast in the morning you can get all the health benefits of eating a grapefruit if you make a grapefruit smoothie. Smoothies are quick to make, healthy, and a great way to give your body the energy boost it needs in the morning to start the day off on a positive note. Smoothies can be made in dozens of different combinations so that you never will get bored of making the same kind, and you incorporate seasonal fruit and other treats to add more flavor depth. Using fruit juice instead of water in the smoothie is a good way to increase the nutritional benefits of the smoothie although it will add some extra calories. Here are some easy to make delicious smoothies that have grapefruit and other citrus fruits in them so you can get Vitamin C, Vitamin D and other important nutrients:

Basic Grapefruit Smoothie – This is a great quick breakfast with no frills when you are in a big rush to get out of the house in the morning but you don’t want to start out without a good breakfast. Simply pour some fresh grapefruit juice, mint, honey, and peeled grapefruit segments into a blender and blend until smooth. If you want to sweeten the taste without using honey try using Honeybell orange juice instead of grapefruit juice. The super sweet juice of the Honeybell will provide a nice balance to the tartness of the grapefruit.

Citrus Banana Pick Me Up Smoothie – This smoothie is delicious for breakfast but also is a great afternoon pick me up. The nutrients in the orange and grapefruit combined with the fiber and smooth taste of the banana give you energy and help your brain and body work more efficiently. Best of all you won’t have a sugar crash from eating a processed sugar snack. All you need is one orange, one grapefruit and one banana. Peel and segment the orange and grapefruit, mix in a little fresh squeezed juice, and pour the juice, segmented fruit and peeled banana into a blender and blend until it has a nice frothy texture. Use a Clementine orange or Honeybell tangerine if you want to try a new flavor or get a taste of the citrus fruit that is currently in season. This smoothie is also a great way to get kids to eat more fruit because it’s sweet but has three full servings of fruit in each one.
