Use Navel Oranges to Lose Those Holiday Pounds

After the holidays most people are forced to deal with the holiday pounds that they put on gorging on holiday treats like cookies, rich cakes, and fat and calorie laden drinks like eggnog. Everyone indulges a little during the holidays since it’s only once a year but once the holiday season passes it’s time to get serious about losing those pounds so that next year you aren’t adding a few more pounds to the same pounds you gained this year. But getting back to eating healthy and exercising after weeks of indulging and skipping the gym can be tough. Your body is used to carb heavy, calorie laden, fatty foods and it wants more of them.

When you’re craving sugar from cookies or cake eating a vegetable is just not going to drive away that craving, but eating navel oranges and other citrus fruits will. Navel oranges and tangerines are super sweet, but they are naturally sweet. That makes a big difference in how your body processes the sugar that you eat. Refined sugar is tough for your body to break down and can build up in your body as fat if your body can’t break it down. It’s also very easy to become addicted to processed sugar because it’s in so many of the foods you eat every day. The natural sugar in navel oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruits is easy for your body to breakdown so it gets processed and turned into energy instead of ending up as stored fat. Eating navel oranges after the holidays is the ideal way to satisfy a craving for something sweet without going off your healthy eating plan.

Oranges are also very low in calories, so they are a great snack or breakfast food. Most oranges and tangerines have under one hundred calories per fruit so if you want to cut calories without cutting out sweets entirely you can eat oranges and tangerines everyday and not gain weight. The vitamins and minerals in navel oranges will also help give your body the energy boost it needs to want to exercise. Orange juice can fuel a great workout by delivering a shot of energy to your muscles and it will also help keep your muscles and connective tissue in good repair. When the holidays are gone this year and you’re ready to get serious about healthy eating again make sure that you stock on up navel oranges and other healthy citrus fruits and start the year out healthy.
