Cooking with Honeybells Adds a Burst of Flavor to Savory Dishes
Since Honeybells are only in season for a short time you should use them when cooking some of your favorite savory dishes as a way to spice up the taste of dishes that you make often. A great way to use Honeybells is to make marinades and sauces that will add a new dimension of flavor to your Christmas ham, wild game, and other wintry dishes that are traditionally served during the time of year when Honeybell tangelos are in season. Making fresh citrus marinades and sauces will make it easy to create delicious dishes that will make your friends and family think you spent hours cooking. Here are some unique ways to use Honeybell tangelos when cooking:
Marinate pork in a Honeybell marinade – Do you traditionally have ham for Christmas dinner or New Year’s Day dinner? This year start a new tradition by serving it with a tasty Honeybell marinade. Take about a cup of super sweet Honeybell juice and mix that with soy sauce, garlic, rosemary, and olive oil. Marinate the ham for at least one hour. Leave the marinade on the ham overnight if you want to get the strongest, richest flavor you can get from the marinade, and then cook as usual. The sweet and tangy taste of the marinade will complement the flavor of the ham perfectly. Your family and friends will love the taste and you’ll look like a gourmet cook.
Marinate chicken breasts in a Honeybell Ginger marinade – This simple to make dish is a great way to whip up a tasty meal on very short notice. To make the marinade mix equal parts Honeybell juice and lemon juice with fresh ginger, a little soy sauce, a couple of cloves of garlic and some salt. Let the chicken breasts soak in the marinade for a few hours or overnight if you can. Pour a little of the marinade over the chicken breasts as they are cooking and serve with rice or potatoes to add a little variety to a very common dish. You can also pour the leftover marinade over the rice as a tasty sauce.
Marinate duck breasts in an Asian flavored Honeybell marinade – Honeybells set off the flavor of duck extremely well. If you’re going to make duck for a special meal, like a holiday meal, give it a little flare by mixing Honeybell juice, fresh ginger, pineapple juice, soy sauce, cider vinegar and honey into a rich marinade. Soak the duck in the marinade and you’ll have delicious duck in an Asian inspired sauce.
