Florida’s Honeybell oranges are a unique, citrus hybrid between the grapefruit and the tangerine. Honeybell oranges, are the perfect addition to any breakfast. Whether by themselves or in a special recipe, the Honeybell gives the extra energy kick needed to get your day started in the right direction.

Because their harvest time is in January and February, Florida Honeybell orange shipments delivered after Christmas offer an exciting window for recipes that weren’t made over the holidays. What a fun way to zest up winter and the new year with a cozy Honeybell breakfast!

The beginning of every Honeybell morning should start with a steaming hot mug full of Florida’s Honeybell Orange Spiced Cider. It is a sure way to warm even the coldest of winter days.

To make the Honeybell cider, simply add 3 cups of apple juice and 3 cups of freshly squeezed Honeybell orange juice into a stove pot. Add 1/2 cup of honey, 4 sticks of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves and 2 teaspoons of Honeybell zest. Optionally add 2 teaspoons of another tart citrus juice (such as lemon or lime). Bring the Honeybell cider to a boil then serve in a cheery mug.

Next on the Honeybell breakfast menu is Florida’s Honeybell orange sweet biscuits. They are sure to satisfy even on those hungry mornings.

Finely zest 1/2 cup of Honeybell orange peel. Make sure no pith (the white part between the peel and the flesh) is included in the zest as the pith adds a slightly bitter taste. Mix the zest well with 1 cup of sugar and set aside. Melt 1 stick of butter and set aside. Open 2 cans of unbaked buttermilk biscuits. One by one, dip each biscuit first into the melted butter and then roll into the sugar zest mixture. Gently place each honeybell zest coated biscuit into a greased pan. Once all biscuits have been coated and placed in the pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees until biscuits turn a light golden brown. Florida’s Honeybell orange biscuits will emerge from the oven hot, sweet, fluffy, and ready to comfort a winter’s morning.

Full of Vitamin C and many other healthy vitamins and antioxidants, Florida’s Honeybell oranges add an uplifting zest to your winter. Whether by themselves or in a creative recipe, Florida’s Honeybell oranges are a great way to jumpstart a day the exciting way. Try one of these recipes or try one of your own! Either way, you won’t be disappointed if you start your day with a Honeybell morning!
