Florida Oranges and Chocolate are the Perfect Combination
Chocolate by itself is delicious, but combining sweet Florida oranges and chocolate makes chocolate even better. If you want to surprise your loved ones or just someone special with a great exotic treat try making an orange and chocolate dessert or drink for them. Different types of oranges like honeybells or clementines can be mixed with different kinds of chocolate to create divine desserts and unique treats that your friends and family will love. Dark chocolate goes especially well with the light citrus taste of oranges so if you love dark chocolate, or if your family and friends do, an orange chocolate dessert will be a wonderful treat. Even if you’re not a great dessert chef you will be able to create these easy but delicious treats.
Orange Chocolate Cheesecake – This luscious dessert looks very complicated but really it’s very easy to make. Start by making or buying a chocolate cookie crumb crust for the cheesecake. Use a cheesecake mix or make your own cheesecake filling, but add about half a cup of orange juice to it and sprinkle in some orange zest. Refrigerate. Once the cheesecake has set spread a thick layer of orange marmalade over the top. Honeybell marmalade can also be used. Let that set in the refrigerator while you melt some dark chocolate candy bars into a sauce. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate to make sure it doesn’t burn. Pour the chocolate sauce over the entire cheesecake and let it chill overnight. If you want to serve this at a large gathering you can put it in a brownie pan or loaf plan instead of a round pan and cut it into slices or bars. Orange Chocolate Cheesecake bars are a huge hit at bake sales.
Orange Chocolate Ice Cream – This is another super simple but utterly delicious treat to make when you want to serve an impressive dessert. Use Florida oranges or honeybells, either one will taste great in this dessert. Start with a high quality chocolate or dark chocolate ice cream. Over the top spoon a sauce made by boiling orange juice, sugar, and some orange marmalade. When the sauce is thick let it cool and then spoon it over ice cream. Garnish the dish with some peeled orange segments or candied orange peel to add a gourmet flair. If you want to get really creative you can make small spoons from candied orange peel and serve the ice cream with orange peel spoons.
