Orange Zest Doughnuts

The Hale Groves Team

Packed with zesty orange flavor, these delightful doughnuts are a refreshing weekend treat or holiday breakfast. Freshly baked, they’re too delicious to resist – and you don’t need any special fryer equipment, either!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsps. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • 1¼ cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp. butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tbsp. Hale Navel Orange zest
  • 1 tbsp. orange juice (freshly squeezed)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease 2 doughnut pans. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients until just combined, then add orange zest and orange juice. Mix until the ingredients are slightly lumpy (do no over mix). Spoon batter into baking pans, filling each cavity just over three-quarters full. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before removing it from pan.

Optional: top with a sugar glaze or dip in powdered sugar.
